What is happening in Perimenopause?

Perimenopause is the phase leading up to menopause when hormone signalling begins to shift.

This transition can begin in your 30s and intensify through your 40s, often lasting 8–10 years.

Hormones do not simply decline.

Instead, oestrogen and progesterone fluctuate unpredictably, which disrupts communication between:

  • the brain

  • ovaries

  • thyroid

  • adrenal system

  • metabolism

This is why symptoms can feel inconsistent, intense, and difficult to explain.

Some researchers refer to this stage as the “zone of hormonal chaos.”

Why Perimenopause affects your whole body

Oestrogen receptors are found throughout the body — in the brain, bones, muscles, heart, liver, skin and more.

When hormone signalling becomes erratic, multiple systems are affected.

Brain
Cognition, memory, and mood regulation may change. Depression and anxiety symptoms increase by nearly 40% during perimenopause.

Muscles
Muscle mass and strength gradually decline.

Metabolism
Insulin sensitivity and fat metabolism shift sees weight gain around the belly.

Skin & joints
Collagen decreases and joints may become stiffer. Hello aches and pains.

Heart

Blood vessels become less flexible and cardiovascular risk gradually increases.

Bones

Bone breakdown can outpace bone rebuilding.

What helps:
Managing perimenopause is not about one single solution — it requires a whole-body strategy. This includes reducing inflammation, supporting hormone balance, managing stress, prioritising restorative sleep, incorporating strength and cardiovascular movement, correcting nutrient deficiencies, and making supportive lifestyle changes.

Why many feel dismissed

Many women seeking help during perimenopause are told:

  • “Your blood tests are normal.”

  • “You’re too young for menopause.”

  • “It’s just stress.”

  • “This is part of ageing.”

Yet perimenopause can begin years before menopause, and symptoms often appear before hormonal decline shows clearly in standard testing.

Your experience deserves to be heard, investigated, and supported properly.

Supporting your whole body

Perimenopause cannot be addressed with a one-size-fits-all protocol.

Rather than chasing symptoms, we focus on restoring balance across the systems that regulate hormones.

Your care may include:

Hormonal Regulation

Supporting communication between the brain and ovaries to smooth hormone fluctuations.

Nervous System Support

Reducing the stress load that amplifies anxiety, inflammation, sleep disruption, and hormonal instability.

Metabolic & Blood Sugar Stability
Helping your body use energy efficiently to prevent crashes, cravings, and weight changes.

Testing That Provides Real Answers

Targeted testing to understand what is happening beneath the surface.

This may include review any previous testing to identify overlooked patterns. and arranging tests such as:

  • Hormone mapping

  • Nutrient status assessment

  • Thyroid evaluation

  • Metabolic markers

  • Functional investigations based on your history.

Nutrient Restoration
Correcting deficiencies such as iron, B12, and vitamin D that influence mood, cognition, and hormonal resilience.

Liver & Detoxification Support
Ensuring hormones are metabolised effectively to prevent inflammatory build-up.

Gut Health Optimisation
Supporting the microbiome to improve hormone recycling and reduce inflammation.

Personalised Herbal & Nutritional Support
Customised formulations may be used to guide the body back toward balance.

Even when using bioidentical hormone therapy (MHT), evidence-based herbal medicine, targeted supplementation, and personalised nutrition and lifestyle strategies can significantly enhance your results — improving energy, mental clarity, emotional stability, and overall quality of life.

If you’re unsure where to start, a personalised consultation can help clarify what your body needs most right now.

Tracking meaningful progress

Healing in perimenopause isn’t measured by symptoms alone.

We will monitor improvements and progress such as:

  • More stable energy

  • Improved sleep quality

  • Better stress resilience

  • Clearer thinking and concentration

  • Reduced symptom intensity

  • Improved metabolic and digestive rhythm

  • Positive shifts in pathology markers.

These changes indicate the body is recalibrating and adapting.
