Toxic and cruelty-free polishes

Colour pop sans chemicals

I love colourful nails. The brighter the better!

With the sun beaming the last few days I’ve noticed mani and pedicured nails are out in force. Unfortunately the chemicals in most nail polishes are pretty toxic and harmful to your wellbeing.

Luckily there are a few awesome brands that are making safer, toxic and cruelty-free polishes.

I’m a big fan of Kester Black, Dead Set Babes and Honeybee Gardens nail polishes as they have awesome colour choices and follow the Five Free Formula. Meaning these nail poishes DON’T contain Toluene, Dibutyl phthalate (DBP), Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin or Camphor.

  • X Camphor can cause liver damage. It also linked to seizures when ingested (caution to nail biters).

  • X Dibutyl phthalate is a toxic endocrine and reproductive system disruptor. Exposure can affect thyroid function.

  • X Formaldehyde is a carcinogen that can also cause organ and immune system toxicity. It is linked to triggering irritation to the eyes, nose and throat and allergic rashes.

  • X Formaldehyde Resin is a common allergen that triggers skin, eye and lung irritations.

  • X Toluene is toxic to the nervous system, impairs breathing and can cause nausea, headaches, dizziness and fatigue.

So what can you do?

Choose safer products like Kester Black, Dead Set Babes and Honeybee Gardens to use at home AND the nail salon.

Heck! Don’t feel bashful about talking to your manicurist about the issue and BYO toxic-free polish to the nail salon!
